Book in progress

Since late last year I've gradually been putting together small chunks of an AI book - in - progress. It's a great exercise in ordering my thoughts and it acts as a focus point in a sector that is changing on an hourly basis. Here's a preview while I wrap up the last few chapters. It's also an exercise in summarising 5 years of intense AI study, speeches, workshops, projects, congresses, people I talked to...this list goes on.

In this first chapter I talk about the definition and history of artificial intelligence and the measurement of intelligence. Which is a tricky place to begin. Trying to define intelligence is an exercise that makes you look dumber the longer you try to do it, but I've given it a shot anyway.

In my humblest of opinions:

Intelligence is the ability to solve a problem(s) efficiently.

Separated from:

Knowledge: Or information. So all the little atoms of data, facts, skills, resources etc that exist in the same space as the problem. (tbh I think this is where most LLM systems are at the moment)

Wisdom: The ability to contextualise at different levels of abstraction than the space where the problem exists.
